To all Safe Harbor Volunteers and Guests,
In view of the health risks we have identified for our guests who are sheltering in close proximity, the progression of the COVID-19 virus in our region and on the advice of our Medical Director, the board of directors of Safe Harbor of Grand Traverse have decided to close the shelter on April 1 at 8:00am.
We need any volunteer who is signed up between now and April 1st please continue to serve. The Health Department does not consider the shelter to be at risk and there are no cases of COVID-19 at the shelter. If a virus outbreak occurs between today and April 1, we may need to close sooner. This decision would be made by our Medical Director.
This is a very hard decision for our organization to make, but we believe the decision to close before the peak of the spread will be safer for our guests than if we remained open.
After we close, Jubilee House will provide meals and daytime drop in shelter and continue to need volunteers. If you are able, please consider contacting Jen Patten who is helping coordinate these volunteers, 231-995-7737.
I am very proud you, our over 1,650 volunteers, our Goodwill partners, the support from the city and other organizations who have reached out to help us stay open up to now during this crisis. Without them and you, we would have needed to close even earlier.
Michael J. McDonald, Chairperson
